Stated second edition; first edition was 1942. Printed by the Imprimerie des Lazaristes, Peking. Handmade paper-covered hardboards, stab-sewn binding style with orange ribbon. Binding ribbon gently separated at spine tail but holding very tight. Brown titling in Chinese characters to the front board, ch'un fang t'u p'u (an illustrated collection of fragrances). Also with pristine full-color plant illustration inset to the front board. Slight mottling to paper boards from age-toning; rather minor. Generally unbumped spine head and tail, and fairly sharp corners. All in all a very clean and presentable binding. 12 x 9 inches. Text block firmly bound in. With 62 numbered pages of text, including poems and stories concerning 18 of China's most revered and beloved plants and trees. Also with 18 tipped-in, full-color plates illustrating those plants and trees.... pine, narcissus, camellia, flowering plum, la-mei, willow, peach, hai-t'ang, tree peony, bamboo, lotus, cinnamon laurel, pomegranate, orchid, grape vine, plant of immortality, persimmon, chrysanthemum. The illustrations are wood-block prints from paintings made for the book by Lin Yu Ts'ang. Impressively clean interior, free of any evident demerits save for very gentle age-toning to the pages. Gently read. No remainder marks. A Very Good Plus copy. Scarce in any condition.
