This is not a bilingual edition. Text in French only, not in English. Bound in contemporary [?] full-calf in an attractive mottled brown pattern, as if tree calf, the hubbed spine with crisp gilt-stamped morocco label and flower patterns. Rear board with gouges, and with one inch separation along spine head and tail. Binding much rubbed but reasonably clean. Text block firmly bound in. 7.75 x 5 inches. Lovely pastedowns and opposite FEPs in a swirled pattern of pink, blue, yellow and beige. Page edges tinted a faded red. With xvi and 526 numbered pages. Antique laid paper, rag content. Handsome vignettes to the title page and preface, handsome head-piece following. Green ribbon page marker. Half title page with previous owner stamp. Bottom of p. 337 with a strip about ½ inch high missing, not at all into the text. The occasional minor blemish to the interior but in the main impressively clean. Very Good Minus. A work reflecting "Age of Enlightenment" knowledge of and remedies for venereal diseases. With numerous observations of individual cases and with reviews of the supposed curative properties of mercury. This treatise reflects the experience of a then distinguished practitioner, and not a theoretician.
