Presumed first and only edition. Thought to be one of only 500 copies printed. Printed and bound in the USA. Blue buckram binding, with crisp white-stamped lettering and illustration. Unbumped spine head and tail, with sharp corners. 11 x 8.5 inches. Text block firmly bound in. With xvi and 704 numbered pages. Replete with 31 B&W maps, all full-page save two, and all on beige stock. An exceptionally clean volume, and very tight, with little hint of shelf life. Either unread or very gently read. No remainder marks. No dust jacket is present. A Near Fine copy. The approximately 1,900 entries in this arctic chronology begin with the Carthaginian Himilco, who may have sighted Greenland in the early fifth century b.c.e, and end with the pursuit in 1916 of the two Northwest Territory Eskimos for the deaths of Belgian missionaries.
