Presumed first and only edition, 1953 [Showa 28]. Published by the Archaeological Investigation Group of Kokugakuin University. This edition with primary text in Japanese, and with secondary text in English. Printed and bound in Japan. NOT ex-library. Plain paper-covered hardboards in burnt orange and gray. With mostly black-stamped lettering. Very clean binding, somewhat age-faded and with light edge-wear. Unbumped spine head and tail, and with fairly sharp corners. Text block firmly bound in. 10.25 x 7.25 inches. 116 text pages followed by 23 pages of plates followed by 4 pages of explanatory text in English. With XXIII full-page B&W plates, highlighting pottery, wooden objects and other relics unearthed at the site. Also with dozens of B&W line drawings throughout the text section. On the front FEP a gift inscription in English in a neat ink hand, " To: Mr. Heron from Kazushige Kaneko, at American Embassy Library, Sept. 18, '53." Else very clean, inside and out. A Very Good Minus. Rare in any condition.
