La storia di tre secoli di prostituzione in Napoli, esaminata alla luce di documenti inediti e corredata di notizie sui costumi, gli usi, la moda, luoghi e taverne celebri. This is not a bilingual edition. Text in Italian only, not in English. Printed and bound in Naples, Italy by Melfi & Joele. Signed in a bold ink hand on the front pastedown by previous owner, Vincenzo Capezza. 10.75 x 7.75 inches. Contemporary binding of paper-covered hardboards, with designs to the front board in orange and green. Bumped spine with small chip. All corners fairly sharp but moderately abraded. The binding is lightly soiled. Bottom third of front gutter splitting but text block remains firmly bound in. With [6] and 176 pages. Wide margins. With 50 illustrations, some in red and some B&W. Tidewater marks at the bottom of front pastedown and some of the pages, not into the text. All pages somewhat age-darkened. Else a clean volume. No evident spotting or foxing. A Very Good Minus copy. Somewhat scarce in any condition. The book is a history of three centuries of prostitution in Naples, examined and presented with, shall we say, delicate sensibilities, and with the help of a rich iconography. Capezza was an Italian opera critic and personally knew many of the great Italian singers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He specialized in the career of Enrico Caruso.
