This book was first published December 1913. This is the July 1914 reprint. Ex library but with very few such markings. Printed by Hudson & Kearns, Ltd., London. Probably one of about 1,000 copies but not so stated. Quarter ivory-colored buckram spine, somewhat soiled, with olive drab paper hardboards, somewhat rubbed. Gilt-stamped lettering to the spine and beige title label to the front board. Some light chipping to the paper binding along the intersection of the buckram. Lightly bumped and abraded spine head and tail. Wear to all four corners such that they are rounded rather than sharp. Hinges with a little play but text block firmly bound in. 15.75 x 10.75 inches. (40 x 27.5 cm.) Decorative pastedowns and opposite FEPs. Tissue-guarded color frontispiece. With XL and 344 numbered pages. Includes a small section on Lutyen's designs for furniture. Throughout the book are numerous B&W archival photographs, sketches, elevations and floor plans. The archival architectural photos are not only of scholarly value but also are a poignant reminder of a vanishing England, as few of the structures have since fallen into disrepair or have been demolished. Also with 16 numbered pages of adverts for additional books offered by the publisher. A small library stamp to the top of the title page. On the margin of p. vii, in soft pencil, an unobtrusive gift note. Pastedowns with evidence of library use-slip removal. Else the interior appears very clean, and with scant evidence of age-toning. Respectfully read. No dust jacket. Rated a Good Plus copy.
