Presumed first printing of the first edition.This is Volume One only of a two-volume set. Unstated limitation but probably not more than 1,000 copies issued, likely unbound. NOT ex-library. Collotypes and etchings printed by J. B. Obernetter, Munich. Approximately 11.5 x 9 inches. This copy with a deluxe binding in red leather and marbled leatherette boards. Hubbed spine with five gilt-stamped compartments. Unbumped spine head and tail, with sharp corners. Binding is exceptionally clean and well-preserved. A most attractive binding. T.E.G. Marbled paper pastedowns and FEPs and with strong hinges. Text block firmly bound in. With xvi and 42 numbered pages of text and with 6 sepia-tine text illustrations. Also with a plate section at the rear consisting of 64 full-page plates, all on heavy matte stock. Most of the plates with pristine tissue guards. A light gray ribbon page marker is present. An immensely clean copy. No remainder marks. A Near Fine copy. It seems unlikely that a finer copy exists. Housed in a plain cardboard slipcase, with "Book is written in German" in ink on one side of the slipcase.
