True first edition, not a facsimile. This is an English language publication. Published under the auspices of the Swedish Society of Anthropology and Geography by Kongl. Boktryckeriet, Stockholm, Sweden. Printed and bound in Sweden by P. A. Norstedt & Söner. Presumed contemporary binding with medium gray buckram spine, and light gray paper hardboards with red and black lettering. Gently bumped spine head and tail, with fairly sharp if slightly abraded corners. Small pale red smudge to the front board. Rear board with a few tiny gouges. On the whole a clean and presentable binding. 12.5 x 9.75 inches. With 50 numbered pages of text, plus 41 full-page plates, mostly duo-tone and a few in color. Also with two maps, including a double-page color map of Nicaragua and Costa Rica 1882-1883, and with a map of the Island of Zapatera. All plates and maps from the hand of the author. All text and illustrations in the book are on heavy, matte stock. An exceptionally clean copy, inside and out, and still rather tight. Respectfully read. A hint of age-toning at the page edges. As to the plates, slight off-setting onto the opposite blank pages. A Very Good copy. Rare in any condition; generally available only in facsimile. The antiquities catalogued in the book are considered by the author as being specimens of Aztec art, or of an art very closely related to this. Illustrations include: statues in Punta del Sapote, statues in Punta de las Figuras, rock-carvings in the Island of Ceiba, and ceramic objects from Ometepec, Zapatera and Ceiba.
