This volume consists of pages [27]-257, the entirety of the philology commentary section. Front pastedown with very small call number and 'withdrawn' stamp. Small 'withdrawn' stamp and number in ink at the bottom of the first text page. Rear pastedown with remnant of card pocket. Slight age darkening to the pages. Else a clean copy, and fairly tight. A Very Good Minus copy. Julius (Jules) Oppert [1825-1905] was a French-German Assyriologist. In 1851 he joined the French archaeological mission to Mesopotamia and Media under Fulgence Fresnel. Over the course of the years, his professional attention was chiefly given to Assyrian and cognate subjects. His book, Grande inscription du palais de Khorsabad, treats of the period of Sargon II, king of Assyria [reign 722-705 BCE].
