Ceci est, par définition, un texte bilingue en français et en assyrien (ou suméro-accadienne).This is, by definition, a bilingual text in French and in Assyrian (or Sumero-Akkadian). Presumed first printing of the second edition, 1902. The first edition was issued in 1887. Presumed printed and bound in France. Contemporary pea green buckram binding, with crisp gilt-stamped lettering to the spine. Mild abrasion to the spine head and tail, with fairly sharp corners. 9.5 x 6.25 inches. Text block firmly bound in. Mild offsetting from the pastedowns to the opposite FEPs. Front pastedown with the handsome and original ex libris plate of O. R. Gurney pasted in. XVI and 148 numbered pages, including a preface, a syllabary, a supplement, tables of cuneiform signs, and additions and corrections. Moderate age darkening to the page edges. Else an exceptionally clean copy, and fairly tight. A Very Good copy. Oliver Robert Gurney [1911-2001] was a highly regarded English Assyriologist and a leading scholar of the Hittite studies. He served for some years as president of the British Institute of Archaeology at Ankara.
