A facsimile edition reproduced from an atlas in the British Museum, London. Printed and presumed bound in the Netherlands. Buckskin-colored, linen-like cloth binding, with crisp gilt-stamped emblem to the front board and with crisp gilt-stamped lettering to the spine. Unbumped spine head and tail, with sharp corners, except for a trivial bump to the top corner of the front board. Immensely clean binding. 17.5 x 11.25 inches. Text block firmly bound in. Lovely cream-colored matte stock throughout. XVI plus numerous unnumbered pages. Numerous B&W illustrations, including atlas text pages and 16 double-page maps. An immaculate copy, and very tight. Either unread or very gently read. Superb DJ in shades of deep tan, white and black. DJ, unclipped and exceptionally clean. DJ in a clear Mylar DJ protector. A Near Fine copy in a Near Fine DJ. An over-sized book. A reproduction of the 1570 Atlas which is This rare volume, first published in 1594, constitutes the first national atlas of France and is considered by many to be the true first modern atlas. Of this rare atlas only seven copies are known to be extant.
