This book constitutes two volumes in one, being Parts 9 and 10 from The Archaeology of Rome series by the author and published serially. Printed as well as published by James Parker and Co., Oxford, England. Co-publisher John Murray, London. Contemporary brick red buckram binding, with fairly crisp gilt-stamped lettering to the spine and with blind-stamped borders to the boards. Moderately bumped spine head and tail, and corners. Very little indication of soiling to the binding. 9 x 5.75 inches. Hinges sound; text block firmly bound in. T.E.G. Slightly deckled page edges to a handsome effect. First part with xii and 48 numbered pages of text, followed by XX full-page B&W plates. Second part with viii and 91 numbered pages of text, followed by XIX full-page B&W plates. Then pp. 36-38 corresponding to the first part and pp. 78-107 corresponding to the second part, all these pages consisting of a catalogue of historical photographs. Then several pages detailing the volumes constituting The Archaeology of Rome series as well as A Plan of Ancient Rome. Finally, a page of publisher's adverts. A few of the plates with foxing but most plates are free of demerits. Else a clean volume, and rather tight. Respectfully read. A Good Plus copy. Scarce, even rare.
