With unstated limitation but probably no more than 500 copies printed. Text in English, not in Danish, except that pp. 107-114 contain a summary in Danish. 13.25 x 10 inches. Original plain paper wrappers, ecru-colored, with black- and red-stamped lettering to the front wrapper and to the spine.. Virtually unbumped spine head. Unbumped corners. The wrappers firmly attached to the text-block. The wrappers are exceptionally clean. The book contains 149 numbered pages of text interspersed with 11 text figures, plus 60 unnumbered pages of LX full-page duotone plates, as called for, the plates on glossy, heavy-weight stock. With gently deckled fore and bottom page edges to a handsome effect. The book is exceptionally clean, inside and out. A Very Good Plus copy. Chapters include: the political and economic history between Europe and Japan from the middle of the 16th to the end of the 17th century; how and when Japanese lacquers were acquired by the National Museum; historical and technical developement of the Japanese lacquer industry; and more.
