Chu Ta [circa 1626-1705], a master of Individualistic and Eccentric painting, was a giant among his contemporaries. He created distinctive kinds of pictorial calligraphy reflecting an intensely personal quality of vision. Much of his life is as mysterious and undocumented as that of the Japanese ukiyo-e artist Sharaku.
