As to the first two volumes, bilingual publications in Japanese and English. New Edition volume in English only. Complete in three volumes. Vol. I, 2nd ed. 1935; Vol. II, 1st ed. 1938; New Edition, 1st ed. 1952. Printed and bound by Jigyokudo in Japan. Fabric boards and with contents bound accordian-style. Vol. I with silk [or silk-like] brocade, Vol. II with striated silk and New Volume with nubby, linen-like cloth. With handsome paper title labels to the front boards of each volume. Generally unbumped corners. Exceptionally attractive and unsoiled bindings. 8.5 x 6 inches (New Edition slightly smaller). Text blocks firmly pasted in. Handmade paper pastedowns/FEPs. Each volume with numerous full-page color painting reproductions of flower arrangements and with corresponding notes. With the small sticker of the original bookseller, T. Z. Shiota, to the rear pastedown. As is typical with this book set, Vol. I with foxing to the preliminaries, into some of the plates. Less so with Vol. II. New Edition appears spotless. Else exceptionally clean volumes, with evidence of moderate shelf life. Very gently read. No remainder marks. Slipped in to the New Edition volume is the pamphlet, Handbook for the Ohara School Flower Arrangements, dated 1952. The pamphlet in Near Fine condition. Each volume in the original medium-duty, plain manila paper slipcase with black-stamped lettering. A Very Good Plus set of books in Very Good Minus slipcases. Very scarce as a set in any condition. The focus of these books is on the Moribana and Heikwa schools of ikebana, or flower and plant design, with special emphasis on the philosophy and techniques by which the Ohara school has interpreted and refined the Moribana and Heikwa approaches.
