Author's introduction written in Nara, Japan in 1933. Book presumed printed and bound in Kobe, Japan in 1933. Rear pastedown with book production information written in Japanese. Dark green buckram hardboard binding, with blind-stamped frame lines to the boards and with a lovely and crisp gilt-stamped image of a flower display to the front board. Crisp gilt-stamped lettering to the spine. Unbumped spine head and tail, with fairly sharp corners. Mild abrading at the bottom of the lower corners, as from shelf pull. Exceptionally attractive and unsoiled binding. 10.5 x 7.75 inches. Text block firmly bound in. Lovely color frontispiece tipped in, a reproduction of a 19th century Japanese woodcut by Toyokuni showing a woman making a flower arrangement of plum branches, With xi and 134 numbered pages interspersed with 161 B&W figures, and followed by 64 full-page B&W plates, plus full index.. All plates full page. With the small and handsome sticker of the original bookseller, T. Z. Shiota, to the front pastedown and, to the opposite FEP slight off-setting marks, quite minor. Else an immensely clean volume, with evidence of moderate shelf life. Gently read. No remainder marks. No DJ is present. A Very Good Plus copy.
