Printed and bound by Trow Directory, NY. Red buckram hardboard binding, with crisp gilt-stamped lettering to the front board and faded lettering to the spine. Moderately cocked. Gently bumped spine head and tail, with moderately bumped bottom corners. Generally unsoiled binding. Library call number in white ink to base of spine. 7.5 x 5.25 inches. Text block firmly bound in. T.E.G. Fore-edge pages deckled to a handsome effect. With fold-out map frontispiece illustrating Churchill's journey, xi and 496 numbered pages, and with two pull-out maps and four plans, as called for. A bit of age-spotting to the preliminaries. Front pastedown with ex-library marks in ink and evidence of former library card pocket, now removed. Exceptionally clean and crisp frontispiece map; one tiny, light marginal spot. Pages 241 and 463 with moderate loss at the fore-edge margin, not into the text. Else a clean and tight volume. Gently read. No remainder marks. A Good Plus copy. One of the author's earliest works.
