Printed by Richard and John E. Taylor, Fleet Street, London. Contemporary leatherette [leather?] binding in dark brown, with elaborate blind-stamped acanthus leaf design and crisp gilt-stamped urn to the boards, and with elaborate gilt-stamped design to the hubbed spine, the spine with a dark green morocco title label. Some rubbing to the hubs of the spine. Moderately rubbed spine head and tail and hinges. All corners scuffed and somewhat abraded. On the whole a clean and presentable binding. Gutters/hinges appear strong, feel just slightly tender. Text block firmly bound in. 8.75 x 6 inches. A.E.G. With handsome pastedowns and FEPs in a green and white paper with a small repeat design. iv + [4pp] + ii + 158 numbered pages. With frontispiece, title page vignette, and 34 B&W engraved plates, as called for. Circular map present in facsimile opposite p. 158. Some plates with the original tissue guards. Scattered light to intermediate foxing to some of the preliminaries and to the margins of some of the plates. Handsome 19th century armorial bookplate of George R. Alexander to the front pastedown. The bookplate with the legend, "Ducitur no trahitur." [He is led, not drawn.] Else a very clean copy and still rather tight. A Very Good Minus copy.
