Two companion volumes, Italy, A Poem, published 1830 and Poems, published 1834. Presumed first illustrated editions. Printed by Thomas Davison, Whitefriars and their successors, Bradbury & Evans. Later full-leather bindings by Root & Son, (binder's stamp to front free-endpapers), in blue polished calf, with crisp gilt-stamped rules and corner devices to the boards and with gilt-stamped design to the hubbed spines, each spine with brown morocco title label. Gilt dentilles to the under-edges of the boards. Unbumped spine heads and tails, except for a gentle bump to the spine head of the second volume. Sharp corners with a touch of rubbing. Some light scuffing to the boards but on the whole very clean and presentable bindings. Gutters/hinges strong. Text blocks firmly bound in. 7.75 x 5.25 inches. A.E.G. With handsome marbled paper pastedowns and FEPs. vii and 284 and viii and 295 numbered pages. Charming B&W steel-engraved vignettes throughout, about 55 and 69 respectively, illustrated after J. M. W. Turner, T. Stothard and others. Blue ribbon page markers. Intermittent light to moderate foxing. Some transfer of a few plates to the opposite pages. Else clean and free of any obvious blemishes. Very Good copies.
