600 copies only of this book were printed, of which 100 copies constituted an edition de luxe. This is not the de luxe edition. Of the 500 copies which constituted the ordinary edition 160 copies were reserved for the USA. Printed and bound in Great Britain by William Brendon and Son, The Mayflower Press, Plymouth. This is a non-circulating ex-library copy. 11 x 8.5 inches. Black buckram binding with crisp gilt-stamped design to the front board and with slightly faded gilt-stamped lettering to the spine. The binding chipped and with losses at the spine head and tail, especially at the head, and with some rubbing along the gutters. Gently bumped and lightly abraded lower corners. Hinges a little tender. Text block remains securely bound in. Text pages printed on Antique De Luxe laid paper. With color frontispiece, and xii and 71 numbered pages of text, followed by 54 plates, of which 14 are in color and the remainder monochrome. The plates on medium-weight, semi-glossy stock. The plates with tissue guards and the tissue guards generally in pristine condition and bearing detailed notes. Very small date stamp, 5 Jan. '32, to the top of the rear pastedown. Else exceptionally clean pastedowns. Very small, oval-shaped library stamp in blue ink to the reverse side of every plate and also to the title page. Else a clean copy. No foxing, spotting or tears observed. A Good copy, taking into consideration the spine losses and the library stamps. All in all a desirable copy of a very scarce work featuring Ming, K'ang Hsi and Ch'ien Lung lacquered furniture and furnishings.
