A bilingual edition in English and Japanese, including the captions for the plates and illus.The volumes are bound in a light gray buckram, with crisp gilt-stamped lettering to the spines. Gently bumped spine heads and tails, and with fairly sharp corners. 12.75 x 10.25 inches. Volume I with iv and 475 numbered pages, and with xiv color plates and with 1446 monochrome plates of Chinese, Korean and Japanese ceramics. Volume II with 339 numbered pages, and with xiv color plates and with 677 monochrome plates of Chinese, Korean, Japanese and other Asian arts. All plates and illustrations on a semi-glossy coated heavy-weight stock. An immensely clean set of volumes, and quite tight. No remainder marks. Either unread or very gently read. No dustjackets. Near Fine copies. The two-volume set is scarce in any condition. This book was issued to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Mayuyama Asian arts and antiques shop by the founder, Matsutaro Mayuyama. The shop was first opened in Beijing in 1906 and then moved to Tokyo in 1916. The principal business of the shop is and always has been the collection and sale of old Chinese ceramic objects.
