Text in French only, not in English. Printed in France. From a limited edition of 1000 copies. Issued to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Utamaro. The pochoir colors are from the press of Beaufumé. 12.75 x 10 inches. Plain paper wrappers with block lettering to the front. The wrapper are very clean but have some fading here and there. With unnumbered pages and with 4 plates, one of which is double-page. The plates on coated stock. All the plates are very clean. Previous owner initials in pencil at top of reverse of front wrapper and at top of title page. Else a clean copy, inside and out. A Very Good Minus copy. This catalog details various paintings, woodblock prints, and books by Hiroshige; 15 prints by Utamaro. From the private library of Herbert McLean Evans. Evans [1882-1971] was a highly regarded U.S. anatomist and embryologist. He was an ardent collector of rare books and of Japanese ukiyo-e prints. The Galerie Berès, facing the south-west wing of the Louvre, which stands across the river, was founded by Huguette Berès in 1951 and is now run by Anisabelle Berès, her daughter. Its twin focus has been, from Day One, on the graphic arts from the Far East and the avant-garde movements in 19th century France.
