Published in behalf of the Society for Japanese Studies. Printed at the Walpole Printing Office, Mount Vernon, NY. 12 x 9 inches. Terra cotta buckram binding, with a crisp, clean pictorial label to the front board and with a crisp, clean title label to the spine. Unbumped spine head and tail, with gently bumped lower front corner. With 337 numbered pages interspersed with 146 B&W reproductions of the prints and drawings of Sharaku. No foxing observed save for a few discreet streaks along the fore-edge. Two small and attractive bookplates to the front pastedown. Else an exceptionally clean copy, inside and out. The plain, printed DJ is intact but has been somewhat crudely repaired with packing tape. A Very Good Plus copy in a Good Plus DJ. The first book published on Sharaku in any language was written by Dr. Julius Kurth in German and appeared in 1910.
