Printed and bound in Great Britain. Tan quarter buckram binding, with gilt-stamped lettering on a green leather label to the spine. Boards in an olive drab Japan paper. 15.25 x 10 inches. Moderately bumped spine tail, with fairly sharp if abraded corners. All in all a very clean binding. Front hinge reinforced with tape but hinge remains tender and the text block is not well bound in. Fore- and bottom edges deckled to a handsome effect. With xvi and 381 numbered pages, with copious notes, lists of artists, artist signatures and publisher seals. Illustrated with reproductions of over 270 prints from the author's collection and other sources. 22 of the prints are reproduced in full color.page plates. The first and last FEPs with some off-setting and spotting. Tidewater marks at the lower inside corner of the last few pages, not into the text. Else a clean copy. No dust jacket is present. A Good copy. From the private library of Herbert McLean Evans, with his initials in soft pencil at the top of the front pastedown. Evans [1882-1971] was a highly regarded U.S. anatomist and embryologist. He was an ardent collector of rare books and of Japanese ukiyo-e prints.
