Bound in half iridescent gray-green buckram with multi-colored marbled Japan paper hardboards, and with somewhat faded gilt-stamped lettering to the spine. Very gently bumped spine head and tail and corners. A very clean binding. The text block firmly bound in. All edges tinted a medium green. Green silk-satin ribbon page marker. With x and 228 numbered pages, and with 116 illustrations, including 16 full-page full-color plate on semi-glossy stock. Only the faintest evidence of age darkening to the edges of the book's pages. Previous owner bookplate, very small and neat, at bottom of front pastedown. Else the book is very clean. A Very Good Plus copy. From the private library of Herbert McLean Evans, with his initials in soft pencil to the front pastedown and with his bookplate. Evans [1882-1971] was a highly regarded U.S. anatomist and embryologist. He was an ardent collector of rare books and of Japanese ukiyo-e prints.
