Dies ist nicht eine zweisprachige Ausgabe. Text in Deutsch, nicht in Englisch. Erste Ausgabe. This is not a bilingual edition. Text in German only, not in English. First edition. Printed and presumed bound in Leipzig. 11 x 7.5 inches. Contemporary brown half calf with deep red buckram boards, and with crisp gilt-stamped lettering and rules to the front board and to the spine. Moderately rubbed binding, especially along the margins, but with an overall impression of cleanness. Slight wear/loss to the spine tail, not pronounced. Corners fairly sharp if somewhat abraded. Hinges strong, textblock firmly bound in. All page edges tinted yellow-gold. Handsome speckled paper pastedowns and FEPs. White ribbon page marker. 220 numbered pages and with 95 plates on monochrome and duotone. A few of the plates are full-page and a few others are double-page. Very clean internally. A Very Good copy. Scarce in any condition. From the private library of Herbert McLean Evans. Evans [1882-1971] was a highly regarded U.S. anatomist and embryologist. He was an ardent collector of rare books and of Japanese ukiyo-e prints.
