This is Volume I only of a two-volume set. First edition was 1847, second edition believed to be 1849, this edition probably the third. Printed and bound in the USA [NY?]. Rebound in San Francisco in 1947 for $200 in beige leatherette hardboards, with crisp gilt-stamped lettering to the spine. Edges probably recut at that time. Unbumped spine head and tail, with sharp corners. 14.5 x 11.25 inches. Text block firmly bound in. There are 82 numbered pages of text and many unnumbered pages consisting of perspective views, floor plans, architectural details and garden lay-outs. Many of the elevations are in duo-tone. Most text pages and some plate pages with light to moderate foxing, a few more with extensive foxing. Vertical semi-crease to the first several pages, fairly minor. A Very Good Minus copy. Twenty-one designs for cottages and small villas are presented in this volume. Receipt for rebinding costs slipped in.
