Presumed first printing of the first edition thus. Printed at the Ballantyne Press, London and Edinburgh. Quarter buckram spine in dark turquoise with gilt-stamped lettering, and boards in mustard-colored buckram. Light to moderate soiling and rubbing to the boards. Very gently bumped spine head and tail, with very lightly abraded corners. 9.25 x 6.25 inches. Text block firmly bound in. With lxxxiv plus 295 numbered pages. The laid paper stock somewhat age-darkened throughout. Else a very clean copy, and rather tight. Gently read. No remainder marks. No dust jacket present. A Very Good Minus copy. With extensive forewords and introduction.
