One of an unstated limitation. 8.5 x 6.25 inches. Green buckram spine, with matching green paper hardboards. Crisp gilt-stamped title to the spine but slight color loss along the spine to the green. With a crisp blind-stamped design to the front board. Unbumped spine head and tail, with sharp corners. Just a hint of shelf life. 60 unnumbered pages. Decorative title page with color illustration. 20 amusing half-page B&W woodcuts by Fritz Kredel. Set by George W. Van Vechten, Jr. in 16 pt. Goudy Mediaeval type. Gently deckled fore-edge and bottom edge to a handsome effect. The book is exceptionally clean, inside and out. Very gently read. The text block is soldily attached to the binding. The glassine dust jacket is age-yellowed and has a few tears. However, it has done a very good job protecting the book. A Near Fine copy in a Good DJ. Completed on the 500th anniversary of the year generally accepted as that in which Gutenberg invented and successfully cast movable types. This book is a made-up story of missing woodblocks from the Gutenberg project. Some scholars took the book seriously. A copy of this book resides in the Yale University archives for the Woolly Whale. The Press of the Woolly Whale was founded in 1928 by Melbert B. Cary, Jr.
