Printed in Italy, presumed bound in Italy. An ex-library copy but with scarcely any of the usual ex library markings, and in any event from a non-circulating collection of a prominent American museum of art. Royal purple silk or silk-like cloth hardboard binding, with crisp gilt-stamped lettering to the spine and with crisp gilt-stamped column design front and back. Unbumped spine head and tail, with sharp corners. Minor rubbing to the cloth. 17.25 x 11.75 inches. With 495 numbered pages, and with scores of stunning full-color plates, some full page, some double page, all on coated stock. The presentation of art works is arranged according to the chronology of the history of Rome. At spine tail the remnants of a library call number sticker measuring about 1 x 1/2 inch. Small library withdrawal slip pasted on neatly to the front pastedown. The rear pastedown with two small stickers, one in solid black and one in bright white. Else an immaculate volume, and very tight, with just a hint of shelf life. Gently handled, gently read. There is no dust jacket present. Notwithstanding the ex-library status a Near Fine to Very Good Plus copy.
