By: Dekker, Thomas

Price: $60.00

Quantity: 1 available

One of a limited edition of 250 copies only. Printed and presumed bound at the University Press, Cambridge, and published at the Cambridge University Warehouse, London. Facsimile of the original edition published by E. A. and Nathaniel Butter in 1606. Octavo, 8.75 x 6.75. Bound in original quarter vellum, with olive drab paper hardboards. Faint gilt-stamped titling at spine head. Simple vellum label with black-stamped titling to the front board. Generally clean spine, label and boards but the vellum and the paper somewhat age-toned. Virtually unbumped spine head and tail. Fairly sharp corners if a bit abraded. Strong hinges. Text block firmly bound in. Printed on hand-made paper. 93 pages. Deckled fore- and bottom edges to a handsome effect. Title page with charming vignette in B&W with coat of arms of the University of Cambridge, "Hinc lucem et pocula sacra." A few pages unopened, hence unread. Attractive armorial bookplate of previous owner to the front pastedown, "Bibliotheque de I. G. Schorsch." Half title page with tiny tear at the fore-edge, almost imperceptible. Else the interior is clean and bright. A Very Good copy. Little information is available on Irvin Garfield Schorsch but it is known that his son, Irvin Jr [1927-2014] and his grandsons went on to make hundreds of millions of dollars in Pennsylvania-based businesses and investments.
