Published by Dentsu on the occasion of their 90th anniversary. Presumed first and only printing. Published 1991. Printed and bound in Japan. This book has primary text in Japanese and secondary text in English. Celadon green silk [or silk-like] binding, with crisp black-stamped calligraphy to the paper label on the front board. Unbumped spine head and tail, with sharp corners. 1-inch by 1/8-inch stain near the tail of the spine, else an exceptionally clean binding. 16.75 x 11.75 inches. With xxii and 238 numbered pages. With 100 stunning full-color, full-page plates, some of which are fold-out. Identification and commentary appear in Japanese and in English opposite each plate page. All plates specially printed on heavy coated stock. An immensely clean copy, and very tight. Almost certainly unread. In a matching slipcase of celadon green silk on hardboards with gilt-stamped Japanese characters to the front board. Slipcase with a 2 square-inch stain in the lower corner of the front board, merely a cosmetic issue. A Fine copy in a Very Good slipcase. A presentation of art images cataloged according to the four seasons, the images taken from pictorial calendars issued by Dentsu over the years.

Full-pictorial wrappers, lightly soiled but uncreased and with fairly sharp corners. 10 x 7 inches. Approximately 26 unnumbered pages of text and 27 unnumbered pages of B&W plates. A Very Good copy. Chu Ta [circa 1626-1705], a master of Individualistic and Eccentric painting, was a giant among his contemporaries. He created distinctive kinds of pictorial calligraphy reflecting an intensely personal quality of vision. Much of his life is as mysterious and undocumented as that of the Japanese ukiyo-e artist Sharaku.

With 70 numbered pages of text, including details for 267 exhibition items. Following the text section is an illustrations section with extensive plates, all on semi-glossy paper. Featured are miniature paintings, ceramics, bronze works and carpets. The half title page for the illustrations section with fingering marks. Moderate off-setting from the pastedowns to the opposite FEPs. Else a clean interior. A Good Plus copy. This exhibition of Islamic art is believed to have been the first of its kind to be brought to San Francisco.

Fore-edge lightly foxed, almost not at all on to the pages themselves. Else a very clean volume. Gently read. No remainder marks. Lovely full-pictorial DJ, unclipped and virtually unrubbed. The pictorial DJ protected by the original clear Mylar over-wrapper. A Very Good copy in a Near Fine DJ. Four monk-artists of the Late Ming are profiled: Chien-chiang, Shih-ch'i, Shih-t'ao, and Pa-ta-shan-jen.
