Una edición en español y no en inglés. This is a Spanish language publlication; it is not in English. This catalog was created in conjunction with the Exposición de Bodegones, Flores y Frutas en la Pintura Española, organized by the Sociedad de Amigos del Arte, May 11 to June 20, 1935. NOT ex library. Oatmeal-colored linen [or linen-like] binding, with fairly crisp brown-stamped still life design to the front board and with brown lettering to the front board and to the spine. Generally unbumped spine head and tail, with fairly sharp and slightly rounded corners. 12.5 x 9.75 inches. Hinges giving somewhat but far from weak; the text block remains firmly bound in. Attractively deckled page edges. With 175 numbered pages of text, interspersed with 27 B&W, tipped-in figures, as called for, and numerous reproductions of artist signatures, and followed by a plates section of LXXXVIII full-page plates, 8 of which are in color. Each color plate with a tissue guard. All plates on medium-weight stock. A few lof the plate signatures are loosening but not detaching. The pages are lightly age-toned, not into the text or plates themselves. There is an inscription in a neat black ink hand, with signature and date, at the top of the front free end paper. Else an exceptionally clean volume, and rather tight. Respectfully read. No dust jacket present and presumed issued without a DJ. A Very Good copy. The publication of this volume was begun in 1936 but was interrupted by the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War. Publication was completed in 1940. The inscription reads, "A los Sres. de [undecipherable], grandes coleccionistas de Estados Unidos, como pequeño recuerdo durante un[a] estancia en Madrid. Rafael [undecipherable], 10-VI-965." Segun Cavestany, "Además de su significación estética, asumen estos cuadros un valor histórico, documental; definen gráficamente, dentro de su jerarquía pictórica, costumbres sociales, aspectos religiosos, y en general el ambiente de sus respectivas épocas."

Handmade paper by Van Gelder Zonen. Watermarked "Singraven" paper, presumed rag content. Contemporary bindings, with buckram spines resembling coated vellum, and with coated paper hardboards. The spines with crisp gilt-stamped lettering. The boards of a rich turquoise background and with elaborate gilt design in a rococo style, at once exuberant and restrained. The boards with light rubbing, especially at the extremities. Exceptionally clean bindings. Text blocks firmly bound in. 13 x 10 inches. Edges deckled to a handsome effect. With X, 252, 268, 286 and 325 numbered pages. With approximately 133 full-page, mostly B&W plates and with colored coats of arms. Tissue guards present. Pocket envelope at rear of Vol. 4 contains six full-color, fold-out maps, as called for. All maps in pristine condition save for a small crease to one of the maps. Recent endpapers. We can find no apparent evidence of foxing or soiling in the volumes. An immensely clean set of four volumes. Respectfully read, if read at all. A Very Good Plus to Near Fine set. Rare in any condition. "Extremely fine publication on splendid paper, printed in a very limited edition and never put in trade. A standard work constituting a full documentation of the history of Twente and giving details from an economic and legal point of view, genealogies, the agrarian crisis in the 18th century, the curious feudal and manorial rights, the situation in the so-called Marken, etc." Singraven itself is a grand estate near Denekamp in the municipality of Dinkelland, region of Twente, Province of Overijssel, in Eastern Holland. The manor house was constructed no later than 1381. Singraven belonged to the bishop of Utrecht, then became an abbey, and afterwards a private house with various different owners. Now it is a museum containing mainly furniture, paintings, books and other objects from the XVII and XVIII centuries.

Chestnut brown buckram binding with gilt-stamped author and title to the spine. Exceptionally clean binding with slight rubbing here and there. 10.5 x 8.5 inches. Very gently bumped spine head and tail, and with moderately bumped corners. Handsomely deckled fore-edge and bottom-edge. Text block firmly bound in. With portrait of Daumier as the frontispiece, and 202 numbered pages of text, interspersed with drawings and illustrations, and with numerous full-page plates accompanied by detailed notes. Most of the plates are B&W but a few are in color: La Parade, Don Quichotte, La Loge. The plates on medium-weight, matte stock. No remainder marks. A very clean copy, and quite tight. Very gently read. A Very Good copy. All in all a lovely copy of a somewhat scarce work featuring paintings and lithographs by Daumier.
