Paris Jacques Seligmann et Fils 1929 First Edition Half-Leather Very Good Minus Folio - over 12" - 15" tall
Catalogue for an auction of the Philippe Wiener collection at Jacques Seligmann & fils, Paris, in 1929. First and only edition. No. 80 of a numbered edition of 250 copies only. Published 29 October 1929 by L'Agence de Publicité et d'Impressions d'Art, Paris, for Jacques Seligmann et fils, Paris. Beautifully bound in contemporary bordeaux-colored half leather, with marbled-paper hardboards. Hubbed spine with crisp gilt-stamped lettering. Generally unbumped spine head and tail, with fairly sharp corners with moderate rubbing. Note that in a thin vertical line along most of the front and rear boards, and adjacent to the spine, there is evidence that some heavy paper or similar was once glued on and later removed as cleanly as possible. Else the binding is quite clean and the leather has a smooth hand. The marbled paper boards are impressively free of demerits. Text block firmly bound in. 12.5 x 10.5 inches. T.E.G. Handsome marbled paper pastedowns and FEPs. Cream-colored heavy-weight paper. With 10 pages of detailed introductory text, principally focusing on 18th century furniture from the Wiener collection, followed by CX [110] numbered plates, almost all of which are full page. Presumed heliotype gravures. A prefatory notes page corresponds to each plate. The interior is impressively clean. A Very Good Minus book. Summary: Watercolors, drawings, gouaches, pastels. Paintings. Sculptures. Various objects. Pendulums, bronzes. Furniture. Tapestries. Jacques Seligmann [1858 - 1923] was a highly successful antiquarian and art dealer with businesses in both Paris and New York.
