Believed printed and bound in Japan. This is a bilingual edition in Japanese and in German. Full-pictorial wrappers. 9.75 x 8 inches. 100 numbered pages. Heavy coated stock with numerous color plates, some full-page. Unbumped spine head and tail, with sharp corners, except for a semi-bump to the uppercorners, quite minor. A lovely copy, clean and tight. Respectfully read and with the occasional English word in pencil appearing at footnotes. A Very Good copy.

With lxxvii, 226, clv, 481, xvi and 506 numbered pages. The volumes with full-color, full-page plates and numerous B&W illustrations. All plates on heavy coated stock. The color plate printing technique is evocative of 19th century chromolithography. Exceptionally clean volumes, except as noted to Vol. III, and rather tight. Gently read. No remainder marks. Attractive, full-pictorial DJs, unclipped. Vol. I DJ with edge wear at spine head and tail and with 4 inch repaired vertical tear at spine tail. Vol. II DJ with tidewater mark at the botton corner, not at all affecting the book binding. Vol. III DJ with large stain to rear and with corresponding protective board affixed to the rear board of the book. All DJs protected by transparent plastic over-wrappers. The plain over-wrappers are beige and are printed in black leettering. The over-wrappers are detaching but mostly present. One edge somewhat crudely repaired with packing tape. A Good Plus copy. From the private library of Herbert McLean Evans. Evans [1882-1971] was a highly regarded U.S. anatomist and embryologist. He was an ardent collector of rare books and of Japanese ukiyo-e prints.

Very gently bumped spine head and tail, and with fairly sharp corners. The binding is exceptionally clean. The text block is firmly bound in. All page edges tinted an attractive red. Handsome decorative pastedowns and FEPs in a small-repeat green and gold acanthus design. With xxix, (1), 122, (2) pages; occasional text illustrations; 2 impressive chromolithographic plates printed in colors and metallic tints depicting Baden's coat of arms before and after 1830; 7 genealogical plates A to G; genealogical tables; 12 fine full-page plates of coins and medals in duo-tone collotype. The two full-color plates are immensely clean and bright, and the surrounding margins have only the lightest toning or flecking. The 12 plates in collotype in fine detail, with gray-scale images of coins and medals against a soft ivory-yellow background. Very light tide mark to top of front pastedown, a minor cosmetic issue. Mottling or flecking to some page margins, mostly subdued. The tissue guard for the first color plate with extensive pencil notes in English in a small, neat hand. With thanks to Wikipedia for the following: Corinth was a German artist and writer whose mature work as a painter and printmaker realized a synthesis of impressionism and expressionism. Corinth studied in Paris and Munich, joined the Berlin Secession group, later succeeding Max Liebermann as the group's president. His early work was naturalistic in approach. Corinth was initially antagonistic towards the expressionist movement, but after a stroke in 1911 his style loosened and took on many expressionistic qualities. His use of color became more vibrant, and he created portraits and landscapes of extraordinary vitality and power. Corinth's subject matter also included nudes and biblical scenes. During the Third Reich, Corinth's work was condemned by the Nazis as degenerate art. In 1937, Nazi authorities removed 295 of his works from public collections, and transported seven of them to Munich where they were displayed in March 1937 in the Degenerate Art Exhibition. Eigentlich Franz Heinrich Louis Corinth war ein deutscher Maler. Er zählt neben Max Liebermann, Ernst Oppler und Max Slevogt zu den wichtigsten und einflussreichsten Vertretern des deutschen Impressionismus. Seine späten Werke werden häufig als eine Synthese aus impressionistischem und expressionistischem Schaffen angesehen.

Presumed German first editions. This is the complete 4-volume set. Printed variously in Austria and in Germany. Bound in Germany. 10 x 8.5 inches. Handsome cloth bindings, with crisp design to the front boards and crisp lettering to the spines. Vol. 4 with very small, dark blemish to the lower corner of the front board. Else the bindings are very clean. Generally unbumped spine heads and tails, and with sharp corners. Note some spine lean to Vols. 1 and 4. Textblocks firmly bound in. With 420, 264, 212 and 320 numbered pages. All volumes replete with full-color illustrations on semi-glossy paper. The half title page of Vol. 1 defaced by previous owner stamp, and a few lines of notes in ink handwriting. Amended price estimates appear in blue ink handwriting throughout the book. A few pages of the book extend beyond the text block and were not properly trimmed. Vol. 1 is a Good Only copy in a Good Plus DJ. The half title page of Vol. 2 with previous owner stamp, else exceptionally clean. Vol. 2 is a Very Good Plus copy in a Very Good DJ. Vol. 3 with light fingering marks on the reverse of the half title page and the title page, else exceptionally clean. Vol. 3 is a Very Good Plus copy in a Very Good Plus DJ. Vol. 4 with light fingering marks near the fore edge of the title page and on a few other pages, else exceptionally clean. Vol. 4 is a Very Good Minus copy in a Very Good DJ. All DJs with clear Mylar dust jacket protectors. This set of four volumes covering major geographic groupings of oriental carpets is highly similar to the four-volume English language edition distributed by the Antique Collectors' Club on behalf of the Oriental Textile Press.

These issues are numbers 30 and 36 (for last two "Hefte") of the series Wissenschaftliche Veroffentlichung der Deutschen Orient-Gesellschaft. Six volumes bound in two. Issues published between 1916 and 1921. 13.75 x 9.75 inches. Heavy-duty black buckram binding with gilt-stamped lettering and rules to spines. Spine heads and tails gently bumped, with fairly sharp corners. The binding shows moderate shelfwear, with very light soiling to the covers. Text blocks firmly bound in. The central portion of front wrapper of the first volume appears pasted on blank page preceding first preliminary text. All other original wrappers are present, with some edge wear, small tears and/or chipping. Pages are clean and unmarked, except for the very occasional annotation in light pencil. The first volume with 88, 80 and 80 pages. The second volume with 80, 72 and 84 pages. Many plates consisting of drawings of cuneiform writing. A Very Good Minus set. This is a rare two-volume compilation of the first six numbers of this publication of the German Oriental Society.

Text in German only, not in English. First edition. Foreward dated July 1923. Printed and presumed bound in Germany. 12.5 x 9.75 inches. Handsome turquoise green binding, with elaborate gilt-stamped design and lettering to the front board and to the spine. The spine evenly and lightly sunned. Overall a very clean binding. Very gently bumped spine head and tail, and with fairly sharp corners, the lower corners with a touch of abrading. Textblock firmly bound in. Handsome patterened paper pastedowns and FEPs. With [8], 36, [4] pages, followed by XXIV full-page plates of which 8 are in color [chromolithographs?] and the remainder monochrome. A touch of age-toning around all page edges, fairly minor. Else exceptionally clean internally and externally. A Very Good copy. "Descriptions of the most precious oriental manuscripts in the Bavarian State Library."
