First American edition, so stated. This is copy no. 82 of a special edition limited to 250 copies signed by John Fowles, editor, who signed in a neat ink hand on the limitation page. Printed and presumed bound in the USA. Turquoise-blue tweed-like cloth binding, with blind-stamped title to the front board and with gilt lettering and silver flourishes to the spine. 12 x 8.5 inches. Unbumped spine head and tail, with sharp corners. Very slight sunning to the spine. Text block firmly bound in. T.E.G. Red silk-satin ribbon page marker. xxii and 646 numbered pages, the text including transcriptions from Latin, Greek and Welsh. Part One addresses Templa Druidum, including Avebury, Stonehenge, etc. Part Two has to do with camps, castles, military architecture, Roman towns, etc. With numerous B&W and sepia-tone facsimiles of text pages and drawings, all on heavy-weight semi-glossy stock. An immensely clean copy, and quite tight. Almost certainly unread. No dust jacket [as issued?]. Housed in a medium-duty cardboard slipcase covered in dark blue cloth and with a paper title label pasted on. Very light shelf wear to the slipcase. A Near Fine copy in a Very Good Plus slipcase.
