Moderately bumped spine head and tail, with fairly sharp corners. Bottom corners with minor abrading. Top edge gilt. Fore- and bottom edges of the text block deckled to a very handsome effect. With xii and 443 numbered pages. Frontispiece and with LXXXVIII full-page plates, most in duo-tone. Plates generally in excellent condition, except that frontispiece has marginal foxing. Foxing to the front preliminaries. Simple gift inscription in neat ink hand to the front FEP. Else a very clean and rather tight copy. Gently read. No remainder marks. Overall a handsome book. No dust jacket is present. A Very Good copy.

The wrappers with lightly bumped spine head and tail, with virtually unbumped corners. The text block consists of stapled signature sheets. 122 numbered pages. The text provides substantial scholarly commentary and elucidation. 55 rugs and carpets are studied in this work. With color frontispiece [apparently a chromolithograph], three color plates and two half tones, and numerous monochrome plates, all full-page on lightly coated stock. A few of the plates have a note in pencil at the page bottom, such as "End of the 16th century." The rear wrapper with extensive carpet notes in a light pencil hand. Else an exceptionally clean copy. A very gently read book. A Very Good copy. With thanks to Wikipedia for the following: "Arthur Upham Pope [1881-1969] is best known as a pioneering American expert on Persian/Iranian art and the editor of the authoritative Survey of Persian Art. This is not a bilingual edition. Text in Italian only, not in English. First edition, presumed first printing, 20 November 1963. Printed and presumed bound in Switzerland, except that the color plates and the heliograph illustrations were produced in Tokyo. Gorgeous nubby, linen-like cloth in eggshell, with crisp brown-stamped Japanese characters to the front board and crisp brown-stamped lettering to the spine. Unbumped spine head and tail, with sharp corners. The binding is impressively clean. 14.25 x 10.25 inches. Text block firmly bound in. With 192 numbered pages, including six pages of front text, scores of full-page illustrations, and ten pages of rear text. Several of the illustrations are in full color. All pages are heavy-weight matte stock. An exceptionally clean volume, and rather tight, with scant evidence of shelf life. Very gently read. No remainder marks. Lovely full-pictorial color DJ, unclipped, very lightly rubbed and with an evenly sunned spine. Housed in a simple light-duty slipcase. A Near Fine copy in a Very Good Plus DJ in a Very Good Minus slipcase.
