Originally published in 1969, this copy appears to have been published by Gakken, Japan, in 1976. A bilingual edition in Japanese (including Kanji) and in English. Printed in Japan. Orange cloth binding, with crisp gilt-stamped lettering to the spine and front board. 10.75 x 8.25 inches. Generally unbumped spine head and tail, with fairly sharp corners. Text block firmly bound in. 110 numbered pages, with 50 color plates on heavy-weight semi-glossy paper, plus 50 B&W images of inscriptions. No remainder marks. Previous owner name and date in neat ink hand at top of rear FEP, else an exceptionally clean copy, and quite tight. Either unread or very gently read. With the original plastic DJ. The DJ with no apparent demerits. Housed in an illustrated cardboard slipcase, the slipcase with wear at the edges. A Near Fine copy in a Near Fine DJ in a Very Good Minus slipcase.

This is the complete set of two volumes from the series. Published, printed and bound in Japan. A bilingual edition in English and Japanese, including the captions for the plates and illus.The volumes are bound in a light gray buckram, with crisp gilt-stamped lettering to the spines. Gently bumped spine heads and tails, and with fairly sharp corners. 12.75 x 10.25 inches. Volume I with iv and 475 numbered pages, and with xiv color plates and with 1446 monochrome plates of Chinese, Korean and Japanese ceramics. Volume II with 339 numbered pages, and with xiv color plates and with 677 monochrome plates of Chinese, Korean, Japanese and other Asian arts. All plates and illustrations on a semi-glossy coated heavy-weight stock. An immensely clean set of volumes, and quite tight. No remainder marks. Either unread or very gently read. No dustjackets. Near Fine copies. The two-volume set is scarce in any condition. This book was issued to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Mayuyama Asian arts and antiques shop by the founder, Matsutaro Mayuyama. The shop was first opened in Beijing in 1906 and then moved to Tokyo in 1916. The principal business of the shop is and always has been the collection and sale of old Chinese ceramic objects.

Off-white buckram-like hardcover binding, with crisp, gilt-stamped titles in Chinese and English to the front board and to the spine. Generally unbumped spine head and tail and with fairly sharp corners, although a trivial bump to the rear upper and corners. With 274 numbered pages and with 128 full-color, full-page plates, as called for in the list of plates, all on glossy, heavy-weight stock. An exceptionally clean copy, inside and out. No DJ, as issued. In the original light-duty slipcase. A Near Fine copy in a Very Good slipcase. Scarce in any condition. A valuable reference tool and cited by Christie's, Sotheby's, and others regarding the identification and authentication of modern Chinese painting and calligraphy.

Catalog for an exhibition of January 1936. 10 x 6.75 inches. Light brown wrappers, spiral-bound (plastic, not wire), with dark brown-stamped lettering and an embossed image in shades of brown. Wrappers slightly age-darkened but quite clean. With unnumbered pages and containing a preface, a biography of each artist along with a reproduction of a print by each artist, text itemizing 289 lots, and several pages of B&W plates, being reproductions of Japanese woodblock prints. An exceptionally clean copy. A Near Fine copy. The artists featured are: Hakuho, Hasui, Kiyoshi, Kotondo, Shinsui, Shiro, Shosun, Shunsen, Yoshida, and Yoshimitsu. From the private library of Herbert McLean Evans. Evans [1882-1971] was a highly regarded U.S. anatomist and embryologist. He was an ardent collector of rare books and of Japanese ukiyo-e prints.
