The book includes sections on Tahiti, la Nouvelle Calédonie, les Nouvelles Hébrides, les Iles Wallis, Futuna, and les Iles Kerguelen. 7.2 x 4.75 inches. Unopened, thus unread. A paperback publication in the original wrappers, and in surprisingly good condition for its age. Moderately bumped spine tail, and lower corners. Black lettering to the front and to the rear of the wrappers. Note that the wrappers are very age-darkened although with almost no soiling. 407 numbered pages, with many B&W illusutrations, full-page plates, headpieces, and fold-out maps. Age-toning around the edges of all interior pages. Else a very clean copy, inside and out. No remainder marks. Many of the pages are still uncut, hence this copy presumed unread. A Good Plus copy. Extremely scarce in any condition.

Presumed early edition, possibly a first. Printed by James Young. Olive drab cloth binding. Blind-stamped covers with gilt-stamped lettering on the front cover. Some spotting and soiling to the binding. . 5.75 x 4.5 inches. The text block is present but is disbound. With 18 numbered pages. Minor age toning and scattered light marginal smudging, else a clean interior. Rated a Good Minus copy. Scarce in any condition. With thanks to Wikipedia for the following: "The Knights of the Golden Eagle was a fraternal organization founded in Baltimore in 1872. The order's original objectives were to help its members find employment and aid them while unemployed. Membership was open to white males over 18, without physical or mental handicaps, who were able to write and support themselves, were law abiding of sound moral character and of the Christian faith. There was a female auxiliary called the Ladies of the Golden Eagle. In the early years of its existence the group received assistance from other secret societies and fraternal groups. The Odd Fellows helped them become established in Philadelphia in 1875 and the Knights of Pythias helped them become established in Massachusetts in 1880. Local lodges were called Castles, statewide structures were called Grand Castles, and the overall group Supreme Castle. In the early 1920s the Knights were headquartered at 814-816 North Broad Street, Philadelphia. The last known headquarters of the group was in North Wales, Pennsylvania."

The slipcase with minor soiling to the underside. A Fine copy in a Near Fine slipcase. Iki translates loosely as chic or style. Sections on bijin-ga, theatre, hair ornaments, combs, purses, accessories, tea houses, lanterns, food, and clothing, costumes and fabrics. Interspersed are charming ukiyo-e illustrations.

The wrappers remain intact. Moderate spine lean nearing the top of the text block. Previous owner name in neat ink hand at the top of the front wrapper, else the wrappers are exceptionally clean and presentable. 10.75 x 7.5 inches. Heavy-weight, semi-glossy paper. With 264 numbered pages, and with LVI B&W plates, including schematics, maps, drawings and archival photos, and with 23 B&W figures in the text. Very light semi-crease to the last pages, quite minor. Else the book appears free of demerits. A Very Good copy. Much of the content focuses on Ancient Assyria, its history, archaeology and ethnography. The majority of the articles are in English but a few are in German and a few in French.

Ex-library with the usual ex-library markings. Plain blue wrappers with black-stamped lettering. The wrappers are soiled and age-faded. The wrappers are neatly reinforced along the spine with cloth-tape. With 43 numbered pages of text, and with 25 illustrations including monochrome plates, some full-page, and B&W line drawings. Apart from the ex-library markings, a clean interior and rated as a Good copy. A synopsis by the famed Egyptologist E. A. Wallis Budge.

Exceptionally clean bindings. 10.25 x 7.75 inches. Text blocks firmly bound in. With li, 727, xxxi, 729-1473, xxxi and 1475-2232 numbered pages, printed in double columns. The book set also has occasional B&W illustrations, mostly quarter-page size or smaller. An impressively clean set, and quite tight. Gentle shelf life and very gently read. No dust jackets are present. A Near Fine copy. The idea of producing a dictionary of Byzantine studies arose as early as 1949. The ODB is limited to approximately 5,000 entries. The ODB addresses issues of chronology and geography, with the scope defined as the period from the 4th to the 15th century, and all regions that at any time formed part of the Byzantine Empire are covered. Also noteworthy is that the entries in the ODB are interdisciplinary in nature.

Contemporary pea green buckram binding, with crisp gilt-stamped lettering to the spine. Mild abrasion to the spine head and tail, with fairly sharp corners. 9.5 x 6.25 inches. Text block firmly bound in. Mild offsetting from the pastedowns to the opposite FEPs. Front pastedown with the handsome and original ex libris plate of O. R. Gurney pasted in. XVI and 148 numbered pages, including a preface, a syllabary, a supplement, tables of cuneiform signs, and additions and corrections. Moderate age darkening to the page edges. Else an exceptionally clean copy, and fairly tight. A Very Good copy. Oliver Robert Gurney [1911-2001] was a highly regarded English Assyriologist and a leading scholar of the Hittite studies. He served for some years as president of the British Institute of Archaeology at Ankara.

Original green morocco-backed green pebbled cloth, with fairly crisp gilt-stamped lettering and design to the hubbed leather spine. Some rubbing along the spine edges. The spine head and tail are generally unbumped and the corners are fairly sharp. With a B&W steel engraving frontispiece of the author, and with a landscape scene of Papeete including the queen's house, and with a portrait of Queen Pomare, all protected by fine tissue-guards. Also present is a pull-out map in pristine condition with two hand-colored flags. All edges marbled to a handsome effect. Marbled endpapers. Inscribed by the author on the FEP opposite the half-title page, "To Lady Cooper hommage de l'auteur Th. Arbousset." Exceptionally clean, inside and out. Virtually no foxing. A very attractive book. A Very Good Minus copy. O'Reilly/Reitman "Bibliographie de Tahiti et de la Polynésie française" 7772. Arbousset was from the Sociéte des Missions Evangéliques de Paris. This work describes the history of the English Missions in Tahiti and those of the French and Italians.

Published October 1930; so stated. Printed at the Press of Kelly and Walsh, Limited, Shanghai, China. 12.5 x 10.25 inches. Quarter bound in orange buckram spine, with moderate creasing and with moderate soiling to the buckram in the middle of the front gutter area. Bound with vibrantly colored paper boards. Orange and yellow paper title label to the front board, with titling and design in black, the label in near fine condition with just a hint of soiling. Virtually no shelf rubbing along the bottom edge of the boards. Very gentle bumping to the spine head and tail, and with the corners gently bumped and abraded, quite minor. The binding is slightly shaken but the text block remains nicely bound in. Clean FEPs. 29 numbered pages of text. With six full-page, full-color plates, as called for. These plates are described on the title page as, "colour photo-gravure from Selected Chinese Paintings." The colors are vibrant and the plates are immensely clean. Also with a decorative capital and with several duo-tone illustrations throughout. A few pages with deckled fore-edge to a handsome effect. A very clean copy. No foxing, writing, staining, etc. observed. Very gently read. Rated a Very Good copy and with Near Fine color plates. This is a lovely, bright example. Rare and hard to find, especially in this condition.
