Published by Dentsu on the occasion of their 90th anniversary. Presumed first and only printing. Published 1991. Printed and bound in Japan. This book has primary text in Japanese and secondary text in English. Celadon green silk [or silk-like] binding, with crisp black-stamped calligraphy to the paper label on the front board. Unbumped spine head and tail, with sharp corners. 1-inch by 1/8-inch stain near the tail of the spine, else an exceptionally clean binding. 16.75 x 11.75 inches. With xxii and 238 numbered pages. With 100 stunning full-color, full-page plates, some of which are fold-out. Identification and commentary appear in Japanese and in English opposite each plate page. All plates specially printed on heavy coated stock. An immensely clean copy, and very tight. Almost certainly unread. In a matching slipcase of celadon green silk on hardboards with gilt-stamped Japanese characters to the front board. Slipcase with a 2 square-inch stain in the lower corner of the front board, merely a cosmetic issue. A Fine copy in a Very Good slipcase. A presentation of art images cataloged according to the four seasons, the images taken from pictorial calendars issued by Dentsu over the years.

He was an ardent collector of rare books and of Japanese ukiyo-e prints.

Heavy coated stock with numerous color plates, some full-page. Unbumped spine head and tail, with sharp corners, except for a semi-bump to the uppercorners, quite minor. A lovely copy, clean and tight. Respectfully read and with the occasional English word in pencil appearing at footnotes. A Very Good copy.

Plain beige wrappers with black-stamped lettering. Tiny paper losses at spine head and tail. Wrappers are age-yellowed and lightly soiled and with previous owner name and address on back wrapper. Text block remains sound although signatures are threatening to separate. With many unnumbered pages of text, listing in detail 931 lots offered for sale. Also 102 B&W plates, being reproductions of Japanese woodblock prints. Light foxing near the preliminaries. A number of notations in pencil throughout. Else a clean copy. A Good Plus copy. The sale is widely regarded as one of the most important sales of the first half of the 20th century of Japanese color prints. So listed at p. 10, The Evolution of Ukiyoé: The Artistic, Economic and Social Significance of Japanese Wood-Block Prints, by Takahashi Sei-Ichiro, 1955. Printed and bound in Kyoto, Japan by Shashin Kagaku. Text in Engl;ish, Japanese and Korean. Consists of 39 square-shaped loose sheets of heavy-duty paper, almost all with color design. Sheets measure 11.75 x 11.75 inches. All sheets immensely clean. The sheets contained in a folding envelope of the same heavy-duty paper. The folding envelope with a brief inscription signed in silver ink, probably by the artist. Also included is a slipped-in prospectus in pristine condition. Note that neatly pasted on to the prospectus is the handsome ex libris plate of the original owner. Housed in a medium-duty plain cardboard box with black-stamped lettering. Moderately rubbing and wear to the box, especially along the edges. A Fine set of prints in a Very Good box. Scarce in any condition. Thus rated Near Fine overall. "Ground and underground are separated by an infinitisimally thin layer of a mental construct called 'surface.' Just as there are opposites in everything conceivable, ground and underground are opposites of this surface." The prospectus includes a biography of the artist and a list of his exhibitions.

In 1999 his first-class collection became a permanent part of the Museum for East Asian Art, Cologne."

Bound by Zaehnsdorf in brown half calf with gold lettering to the hubbed spine, and with aubergine buckram hardboards. Moderately rubbed, especially along the edges of the leather. Almost no wear to the spine head and tail. Evidence of a little former dryness along the gutters. Corners fairly sharp if lower corners somewhat abraded. Text block firmly bound in. Marbled paper pastedowns and FEPs. 158 numbered pages. Approximately 43 heliogravure plates on semi-glossy white stock and one fold-out print in stunning color. Plates in very good to excellent condition. Almost all plates with tissue guards. A very clean volume inside and out. A Very Good Minus copy. Scarce in any condition. The signatures are gradually loosening. Lightly bumped corners. With 107 numbered pages and with 15 full-page plates, four of which are in color. The plates on coated stock. All the plates are very clean except that B&W Plate 11 has a smudge in the lower margin, not into the plate. Else a clean copy, inside and out. A Very Good Minus copy. Also included is a pristine 3-page price list. This catalog details two series plus 123 drawings, watercolors and prints by Hiroshige; 15 prints by Hiroshige II; and 4 prints by Eisen.
